Patvinsuon kansallispuisto / Patvinsuo National Park
Viikonloppureissu Itä-Suomeen? Kyllä kiitos! Lähdimme perjantaina töiden jälkeen ajelemaan Kolille, jossa yövyimme ensimmäisen yön. Kävimme aamulla ihastelemassa upeita maisemia Ukko-Kolilta, jonka jälkeen ajoimme reilun tunnin Patvinsuon kansallispuistoon. Mitä lähemmäs pääsimme Venäjän rajaa, sen kivikkoisemmaksi luonto ympärillämme muuttui. Ruska oli hyvässä vauhdissa, mutta ei vielä parhaimmillaan.
// A weekend trip to Eastern Finland? Yes, Thank you! We started driving towards Koli, where we were gonna stay for the night, on a Friday after work. We went to admire the views from Ukko-Koli in the morning and then we drove about an hour to Patvinsuo National Park. The closer we got to the Russian border the rockier the landscape turned. The autumn colors were coming, but not quite at its best yet.
Päätimme kiertää 3,3 km pitkän Lakkapolun, sillä meidän oli tarkoituksena jatkaa täältä vielä Petkeljärven kansallispuistoon ja pimeys tuli tällä hetkellä jo klo.19 aikaan (tai vasta, miten sen nyt ottaa kun tätä kirjoittaessani pimeä tulee jo klo.16 aikaan). Jätimme auton Surkansuon pysäköintialueelle (Suomuntie 27, Lieksa) ja lähdimme kiertämään kierrosta. Alkumatka mentiin pientä polkua pitkin autotien vieressä ja jopa lyhyt pätkä autotietä, mikä harmitti ja ihmetytti. Pienen pätkän jälkeen päästiin kuitenkin itse Surkansuon avosoille. Avosuo olikin tälle paikalle oikea nimitys sillä täällä suo näyttää vain jatkuvan jatkumistaan.
// We decided to hike the 3,3 km long Lakkapolku (Cloudberry trail), as we were planning to visit even Petkeljärvi National Park before the dark that at this point came already at 7pm (or not until, as at the moment while I’m writing this it gets dark at 4pm, how fun!). We left the car at Surkansuo Parking Area (Suomuntie 27, Lieksa) and began our hike. The beginning of the trail was disappointing as it was next to the road and then a bit on the road, but the walk wasn’t long and we got to the Surkansuo open mire. And boy was it open. The empty mire just kept going.
Karttaan oli merkitty luontolava polun keskivaiheille ja odotin sitä kovasti sillä luontolavoilta aukee useasti upea näköala. Noh, tällä kertaa odotusta ei palkittu, sillä luontolava oli metsässä sen verran kaukana suosta, että sieltä ei kunnolla suomaisema avautunut edessä olevien puiden takia. Patvinsuo on yksi kansainvälisesti tärkeistä lintualueista ja näimmekin ison lintuparven nauttivan olostaan suolla. Tätä ei tosin tahtonut nähdä luontolavalta vaan suon laitaan sai yksinkertaisesti kävellä varvikkoa pitkiä. Patvinsuon asukkaisiin kuuluvat myös karhu, susi, ilves ja ahma joita ei meidän reissulla näkynyt, ehkä hyvä niin.
// I saw on the map that there is a nature platform in the middle of the trail and I was excited to get there as the views tend to be the best at those spots. Well, this time they weren’t as the platform was too far from the mire and you couldn’t see the mire clearly due to the trees between the platform and the mire. Patvinsuo is an internationally important national park because it offers a multitude of nesting and feeding places for numerous species of birds and we actually got to see a big flock of birds enjoying their stay. But, you couldn’t see this from the platform, you had to make your way a bit closer to the mire. Other Patvinsuo residents are brown bears, wolves, wolverines and lynxes. We didn’t see any of those, which is probably a good thing.
Ai niin! Melkein unohdin mainita, että Patvinsuo on Rajavartiolaitoksen harjoitusalueen lähellä ja pauke kuului luultavasti avosuosta johtuen hyvin selvästi luontopolulle. Patvinsuolla olisi ehkä pitänyt käydä kiertämässä toinenkin kierros jotta paikasta olisi jäänyt parempi fiilis, sillä Lakkapolku oli pieni pettymys vaikka Surkansuo olikin kaunis kaikessa yksinkertaisuudessaan. Matkan piti kuitenkin jatkua Petkeljärvelle ennen sateen ja pimeyden tuloa. Vinkkaa minulle ihmeessä alas kommentteihin, että mikä kierros/mitkä kierrokset täällä kannattaa kulkea. Kiitos! :)
// Oh right, I almost forgot to mention that Patvinsuo is close to the Border Guards training grounds and firing ranges so the banging of the guns was audible probably thanks to the huge open mires. We should have hiked another trail, so that I would have got a better feeling of this place, but we had to hurry to Petkeljärvi before the rain and darkness. Lakkapolku-trail was a bit of a let down even if the Surkansuo mire was beautiful in its simplicity.
